Stand for Dignity at the Missouri Capitol, January 7th

Candles mourn the lives lost after Missouri politicians blocked Medicaid expansion

stan,

This past year we have witnessed great pain across our state.
Too many Missourians have died because they lack access to healthcare.

Too many mothers have had to mourn the loss of their children in the street.
We know all too well the human cost when public policies and elected officials don't honor the sacred dignity of every person.
This year, Jefferson City has to change. We want to send clear message to our state legislators about the moral choices we face as a state. They have a very real choice: human life or partisan politics as usual.

Join us as we take action in the capitol on Jan 7th and call on our elected officials to make human dignity and human life the priority in 2015. Together we can move Medicaid expansion and real criminal justice reform forward and bring relief to our people.

FW: Rallies for Mike Brown

Hi everyone,

By now, I'm sure all of you have been following the story of Mike Brown, the seventeen year-old boy who was shot and killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri on Saturday. Some of our members and supporters have reached out to us to ask what you can do to support the Ferguson community during this painful time. There are three events happening over the next few days to honor Mike's life and demand increased police accountability. They are:

1. Sunday, August 10 at 8pm-- A vigil for Mike Brown at the Canfield Green Apartment Complex, 2974 Coppercreek Road, 63136

2. Monday, August 11 at 10 am-- A rally at the Ferguson Police Department, 222 S. Florissant, 63135

3. Tuesday, August 12 at 10 am-- A rally at the offices of County Prosecutor Robert McCulloch, 100 S. Central, 63105

We will continue to keep our members and supporters updated as more events unfold. We know that in times like these we need to come together, support one another, fight back, and organize.

A national group of parents speak out to protect their children.

Teen age sexual behaviors have been prevalent since the beginning of humanity, but the way society views them have changed throughout the years.

Sexual expression has become more predominate and accepted by our society; However, at what point is it too much? This is the question Beyond The Registry members hope to answer.

More and more laws have evolved to punish those who are viewed as sexually deviate; including our younger generation. It is estimated that well over 300,000 American youth, under the age of 25 years old, are now listed on a public shaming list referred to as the sex offender registry.  Well over 39.6% of all reported sexual deviance allegations point to defendants who are under the age of 18 years old, with 10% of the accused being under the age of 12 years old.

Beyond The Registry members are witnessing their children's lives destroyed by the laws surrounding the sex offender registry. "The laws were created to protect our society's children, yet have destroyed more lives than they have saved. It's time we stand up for all children." states Kimberly DuBina Director.

The organization wants readers to know the ramifications the sex offender laws have on our young whose lives will forever be victims of the restrictions placed before them. They face broadcasting their home addresses and pictures on a public list for all to view, lost opportunities for careers and high paying jobs, face emotional damages thus restricting the development of lasting relationships, no chance of having parental rights or a familial unit, starvation due to new laws preventing them from getting food subsidies, loss of educational privileges, can't vote in major elections, are subjected to vigilante harm, can't get a housing loan or landlord to rent to them, can't travel out of the country or even attend amusement parks …….the list goes on.

Patti Wetterling, mother of abducted and murdered eleven year old Jacob Wetterling, has been quoted defending the youth accused of sexual offenses by saying, "we've cast such a broad net that we're catching a lot of juveniles who did something stupid or different types of offenders who just screwed up. Should they never be given a chance to turn their lives around? They are very different than the man who took Jacob."

Sandie Mossbarger director of BTR responds, "We believe these laws and regulations were created to protect the public, especially our children, but in reality the registry has become nothing more than a hunting ground for vigilantes and an avenue to convict our youth. People have been lured in to a false sense of security without realizing their own children are just a court date away from facing these registry laws," Mossbarger continues.

These children and young adults are our future! Continuing to place punishments on them for life, we will all fail.
