Today, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a report citing that “St. Louis city’s gunshot murder rate for 10–19-year-olds is more than three times the national average.” St. Louis city youth are killed by gun violence more often than in any other city except New Orleans, it goes onto say. We also know that a high percentage of the perpetrators are other teens. This reality is all too familiar to the families of Mr. Paul Reiter, Ms. Patrice Thimes, Tyrone Thompson and other grieving St. Louis families. This news makes the scheduled June 4, 2011 event by a group of churches, mosques and faith-based organizations all the more important as it is timely. The group known as Faith Partners Against Youth Gun Violence have been planning a collaborative effort to challenge its members and larger St. Louis community to engage the issue of youth gun violence. They will roll out their plan to the community at St. Alphonsus "The Rock" Catholic Church, 1118 North Grand Avenue, at 9:00am. The plan will offer a three dimensional approach in the areas of Activism, Awareness, and Advocacy. We invite you to engage this effort with us to stop the gun violence and killing of St. Louis area youth. Please make plans to attend and forward to all concerned individuals.
See attached flyer for more details and meet us at "The Rock", Saturday, June 4th, 9:00am!
Grace and Peace!
