Bro. Ruben Williams, a long time member of the Berean District Laymen, Missouri State Laymen, and National Baptist Laymen and current President of the Laymen at the Lite of Jericho M.B. Church, where Rev. Reginald D. Rogers, Sr. is the Pastor, after a short Illness went from labor to rest on Friday, November 18, 2011.

Everyone meeting at St. Luke-Memorial, 3563 Finney Ave. 8am sharp

Site 1: Lewis Place & Fountain Park neighborhood

            Meet  Bro. Al Willis (314-7363 hm & 314- 799-3290) at Finney & Taylor  - He will lead a group to clean up the 3 blks of Lewis Place

                         Ms Pam Talley (314-535-6867 hm & 314-322-6952 cell) will lead a group to do some community clean-up which may include  planting flowers and or cleaning around those area’s.

         2. Sherman Park/Academy Area

            Meet Rev John Watson, Pastor of Maple Ave. Church (314-625-5846 cell) at, 5195 Maple Ave. Pastor Watson will lead a group to clean some designated area’s in that neighborhood

        3. Wohl Community Center

            Meet Mike Nettles at Community Center, 1515 N. Kingshighway Blvd.

            Group will clean inside building and some outside Park clean-up,

       4. Second Chance Homeless Shelter, 240 N. Sixth Street, East St. Louis, ILL.

            Meet Rev John Smith – Want to PAINT two rooms and small repair’s. He has all everything but the labor!!!!!

Shot Vouchers and Diabetes Educational Materials Available Monday, 11/14/2011-7:00-8:30 P.M/Galilee

Greetings In His Name:

I trust that you are having an awesome day enjoying the Blessings of God.  The wind is high, yet simply beautiful on this day.  Who can provide such; other than the Creator of the Heaven and Earth.

The Flu can make you feel miserable; however when you get a flu shot, you protect yourself and those around you.  The Social Service Ministry will have free flu shot vouchers available this Monday, November 14, 2011 from 7:00-8:30 p.m., during the Congress of Christian Biblical Institute held at the Galilee MB Church, 4300 Delmar.  The vouchers were donated by Walgreens.  There requirements -- you will need to sign the voucher before taking the shot certifying you have no insurance coverage, or cannot afford to pay $25.  The vouchers will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.

The safety of the Flu Vaccine is closely monitored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration.  "The vaccine is safe."  Please take advantage of these free resources and services.

In addition, November is Diabetes Awareness Month.  14.7% of all African Americans aged 20 years or older have diabetes.  Good diabetes management can help you reduce your risk.  Too much sugar does not "give" you diabetes.  Eating too many calories can make you overweight, and overweight is a leading risk factor for type 2 diabetes.  Limit your portion sizes today.  The Social Service Ministry will have diabetes educational resources for you and others as well.

Please let us know how we can help you or your church address social and health related issues that are so prevalent in the African American Community today.  We value your comments and are accepting ideas for forums, mini-workshops and presentations that are held quarterly for Berean MB District Association.  We are due for one on December 12 if weather permits.
